Tips of Treatment Ideas I Have Used With People In Sessions
Weight Loss
Many people come to see me to lose weight. In private practice I usually only need to do a single session with clients as long as they take on board what I recommend.
As well as working on improving the metabolism and removing the emotional bonds from certain foods (if necessary) I also help people to improve their relationship with healthier foods.
Then I recommend an eating plan. IT'S NOT A DIET... It is so simple for people to stick to and often involves eating food the person likes to eat.
The eating plan is to eat high protein healthy foods during the day. Don't have cereal or other non/low protein breakfasts find something high in protein to eat that is healthy, it could be boiled or poached eggs or scrambled eggs etc.
Then make a pack lunch you can snack on through the day that includes high protein healthy foods, it could be for example a prawn salad without dressing, or a chicken salad without dressing.
If you want something hot and filling make up a thick chicken soup.
The reason for high protein is that the protein triggers the 'off' switch (I'm feeling full) in the brain quickly so you can eat less a stay feeling full up longer. (People eating healthy high protein diets lost weight about 3x faster than people that dieted normally)
The reason for soup is that if you consume a thick liquid it takes about 4x longer for your stomach to digest than if you consume the same amount of food 'dry' and a glass of water (which is why drinking a glass of water may help you eat less but it goes right through you meaning that you quickly become hungry again)
If you eat fatty food make sure you have something high in calcium at the same time. This could be a pint of skimmed milk for example.
The reason for the high calcium is that calcium binds to fat in the stomach stopping it from being absorbed into the body. This ONLY happens to the fat in the stomach. Consuming calcium doesn't remove fat you have already absorbed. (People that consumed high levels of calcium without trying to diet or lose weight (so two groups of people; one group eating normally, the other group eating normally but consuming high levels of calcium) lost about 2lbs per week)
It is also important to occasionally have the odd cake or chocolate or biscuit etc... especially when you are well into achieving your ideal weight. If you feel temptation or feel a need to be polite in a situation and eat something unhealthy it doesn't matter as long as the general trend is in the right direction. When you reach your ideal self the only way to maintain that is to eat unhealthy occasionally because your general diet will be a 'weight loss' diet that has been helping you to reduce weight, so when you reach your goal you need to eat more calories occasionally to keep the balance there.
